In 1773, the New Hampshire Gazette — the province's newspaper of record, printed at Portsmouth — carried advertising for new manufactured products reaching provincial households and tradesmen. These notices are a window into the commerce of the province on the eve of the Revolution, and into the goods, prices, and aspirations that reached frontier towns like Rochester.
